Well, I've been wittering on about this for a while now but time is getting short so I thought I'd write it up and see what interest there is.

The plan is to spend the Easter weekend under canvas at Squires Cafe near Sherburn In Elmet. Camping is free, there's a pub, cafe, bike shop, showers etc all on site. If you haven't been there before, it's like being at bike night every day. Hundreds of bikes there of all sizes and shapes and there's some great roads to explore too.

http://www.squires-cafe.co.uk/

I reckon on travelling up on Good Friday (should be fun with a belly full of Chinese from the night before) and then leaving on either Easter Monday or Tuesday. What happens after that, who knows? Rob was on about going to Shell Island in North Wales or we could do the lake district or or or.........

All I know is that we'll be at the Paignton bash the following weekend....

So, who's up for something like this? Any thoughts about rides out, places of interest etc?

OK.... hopefully this will work.

The route towards the Lakes will be as per the map. Having spoken to locals, this is the most pictureque route I could find... plenty of cafes and stop off points too :-D

Cracking route you've pick, some excellent and technical roads. Very enjoyable too.

I thought you could just ride around the area on the A roads and see the sights or take a more technical one and have some fun.

Have you done those roads Les? I know Kev has done some or all so I'm kinda waiting for some feedback.

Not done them all on the bike, but they are lovely roads and should be good fun on the bikes. You cant really go wrong in the lakes.

Les.

i really enjoyed it up there, hawes is a big meeting place for bikers, absolutely rammed on the weekends. the back road over the top between hawes and kirkby stephens was excellent.
hardknott was interesting mainly due to a goldwing rider dropping it ( the bike that is  ) and it taking a small crowd to get it upright.

i'll dig out some pics and put them in media section. we stayed in a place called Dent ! it had a chip shop, 3 pubs, brewery, campsite and no mobile signal.... cock on

Being a Kendal boy (so knowing the Lakes VERY well), I would suggest that you consider leaving the tourist routes well alone as it's Easter- as Borney says so roads will be rammed.

Keeping to the lesser roads can still be a fantastic rideout.

Windermere, Ambleside and Coniston will fry your bike and it's not that easy to filter in town as it's so narrow.....

Off the beaten track tho" fantastic....

I will be at the Glos MAG rally over Easter in the Forest of Dean, so won't be taking part in this. Hope you all have a good time though.

Les.

Thanks Ian... does that mean you're going to be our Lake District tour guide then? 8-)

So, in your opinion.... taking into account it's going to be midweek, are those passes going to be "do-able"?

Passes are always do able RF!

Kirkstone etc are a doddle really but the likes of Hardnott and Wrynose really need a decent clear run.....Good Friday through 'till Easter Monday it's full of bloody tourist...!

The last time I went over there with bikes you could smell the brake pads frying on the way down  - the last thing you want to do is meet some old boy in a flat cap on a blind hairpin eh? up or down.....

You should also add Alston Pass (near Penrith) and some of the roads around Hadrians wall........

send it on!!!

Thanks Ian! It looks likely that we won't be in the lakes until the Tuesday then. :D We can always run out to the likes of Whitby from Squires to fill an extra day or two (providing we're sober enough).

I think we'll leave the likes of Alston and those border roads until next year when we launch all out on Scotland.
