Guys, and Girls, to save me being ripped off, how long does it take for a replacement head bearing set to be fitted to my VTR1000, and does anyone know anyone who they can recommend for the job, also can the original ones be nipped up? I have been depleted of cash of late so mucho mucho cheapness is preferred, and do I go for the tapered ones or the original ones and does it matter a fart or not.....cheers in advance of any replies, daft or not. Shaun.

if you use a 4.7 mm spanner hammer you get access to the ooble clutch positive retention lever which operates the main line warp drive.

yes they keep secrets like that to themselves, someone from glosbikers told me about it, they said to keep it quiet as they didnt want to be seen to be "active".........

ummmm those head bearing issues :)

I would personally try tightening up a little to see if that will do a short term solve but unfortunately once they start loosening they tend to just deteriorate quite quick and will need replacing.

Try tightening up first by un-doing top yoke nut then if you can get a special spanner "flat head screw driver" cough cough in to tighten up the special nuts under the top yoke usually three on top of each other and two will be fixed together by a special washer so try turning the one at the very bottom then move up to the next one and so on and tighten them down. "dont over tighten it though as turning will get notchey and hard.

If you do go the route of getting them changed i swear by the tapered ones they make the bike feel so much smoother on turning and get alot better feel through road contact, you will be surprised " i was" but it dont take much any for me any way lol. and change both top and bottom yoke bearings for tapered.

And yes its not a 2 minute job but a decent mechanic should do them farley swiftly with a few hours
