I think my Facebook account has been hacked. I am getting messages via my phone from friends saying that they have had a message from me (simple message like just "Hi" with no other content.) The message contains a link. do not click on the link.

The link is to a malware distribution site. Please do not respond. At the moment I can't post my status updates or get into my messages or even do chat.

I am very sorry about this. I am not able to anything about it at the moment. I am trying to contact Facebook, but am having difficulty doing that.

Update.

I have spent the last hour trying to let as many people know about my facebook problem, I have text those I know the phone number for and emailed others.

Thanks to advice from Yammylinx I think things are now back to normal. I can now acces all the features, messages, chat and status etc.

I am so pissed about this, but it serves as a reminder that there are some scumbags out there. I am having to change all my passwords because of this.

It now appears safe to communicate with me on facebook again. (Just don't go following any links in messages for a while)

I am quite embarased by this. Very sorry to mess everyone around. If it can happen to me it could happen to you too, so be aware.

Well getting more feedback from friends now. It seems that only a few people on my friends list got the message. It was a simple text. All it said was "hi" followed by a link. Can you let me know if any of you got a message from me on facebook. Thanks. It does not appear to be as bad as I first thought.

I have had a crap day at work today so the last thing I needed was to find out I had problems on facebook.

I think I need a pint or some good luv'vin. Oh well guess it's a pint then.

Ok it's not funny, same problem with Facebook again today. This time can't do anything on facebook at all. I know I have sent out a least 2 more messages today with links in. (Which were not sent out by me)

I think I will close my facebook if I cant sort it out soon. (Thats if I can get into it.)

Think I am back up and running again. However if it happens again then its adios and hasta la vista baby to face. It seems to have been the iphone app for facebook that was causing the problem. I have now removed it. Lets see what happens next. The set password for facebook in is a strong one, so let's hope that's the end of it.

Hey Les, I feel for you mate.
We got infected by a nasty malware virus last week & left the pc dead in the water
We kept getting asked for all our details (addy,card,dob etc) to get rid of the so called 52
infections we had on the computer when infact we only had the one malware infection.
Ended up taking it to pc world to have the whole pc "cleaned up" also downloaded a free
software caled Malwarebytes' (which is what they used) & its supposed to be pretty good.
Give it a try & run it once a month, has to be worth a go
Not to mention changing all our passwords & it's hard to believe how many passwords you
have

My problem seems to have been on the mobile application for my iPhone. It just sent out a few messages with links to a malware site in them.

I am quite well protected on my PC. I had to help a friend sort out this very same problem a week or so ago. I know it's difficult to get rid. I sent them a how to remove it instructions.

They seem to have sorted it out. they had a free auntie Vi (rus) program which let it through. I use Norton Internet security. I have found it best to pay for protection as you have a bit of come back if your machine get infected. Norton used to slow the machine down, but they seem to have sorted this out on the latest version.

Well day 3 of the Facebook fiasco.

Today I cant login to my account at all. Fortunatly I have had some emails with comments and requests on my account. The link on the bottom of the emails have allowed me to get back to the point were I can reset my password. Let's hope this works.
